Dear Friends

I have a big problem , my name is correct on passport, birthcertificate , H1 but my social security card has my name swapped. I never bothered to change all these years but I hear name check so I am worried.

Will my 1-485 case get stuck because of this
is it a good idea to change the name on SSN now.

Why is it that people who have filed after me have already received their notice and had checks cashed? I thought it is based on when the application is received is how they process- I am freaking out thinking that my application fell behind a desk somewhere....

Recently I came across a different situation where outsourcing caused to lay off GCs and citizens(Ind origins).
My friend is working in a medium company for 5 years after he got GC.
Comapany decided to outsource certain piece of project to TCS and in that effect my friend was laid off. I think in future this might more often to us who are waiting in line for GC. May be it is part of life ....
Most funniest part is company has prepared a official guidlines to employees how to communicate with indian team (which is mostly located in India).
here are examples...
1) when they say they understood every thing, do not take it seriously. Ask them explain what they knew.
2) during discussion do not use any US slangs. Talk to them in simple english.
3) do not be surprised for few new words like FUNDA, Bouncer, Sixer (cricket), Yaar,
4) know something about cricket. Indians love cricket game.

The world is flat. Any job that CAN be outsourced, will be outsourced. Now, it may be India, but other places are catching up. No matter how efficient you are and how much knowledge you have, if your job CAN be outsourced, it will be outsourced. Companies hire specialists who do the ourtsourcing process. Almost all layoffs are a result of moving the jobs out or closure of partial or complete businesses.

For outsourciong, all we need is a high speed internet connection and a skype software as a bare minimum.

Yes, this is a constantly changing world, none of the jobs are stable and things keep constantly changing. Read the book "The world is flat" by Thomas Friedman and you will understand what it is all about

Unless you are sitting on a pile of cash, this is really a no brainer....

Like others have suggested :
(1) Give it to me, i will invest it for you..;-)
(2) Depends upon your familial situation and resources you have, both here and in your home country.
(3) If you plan to go back to India ( i am guessing yo are Indian..)

This really is a personal choice that you have to make, with your spouse. By posting such question on open public forums, you have just opened the floodgates to getting made fun of and ridiculed...believe me, it is very tempting...

I believe the 180 days starts from the day of 485 notice date and not 140 approval. I had confirmed this with my attorney (both my personal one and the companies )before making the shift and I had and RFE on my 485 in June 09 and nothing after that. I would assume that USCIS was happy with my response and the case might have been pre-adjudicated.

As per Ron, one cannot apply for H1B renewals based on revoked 140's. I wanted to see if anyone here has done it successfully. I will check with my attorney as well as my companies attorney.
180 days is from when 485 filed as per yates memo... Check with attorney and you should be fine I dont want to draw conclusions here though. You may need to switch to AC21 aka use the EAD.. again I am not the lawyer here just coughing up what i know. H1B may be renewed if you have any of 6 years left. Why does he need to start entire GC process for just renewing H1B i dont understand.

Imagine this. You are old. You are talking to your grandson in your native tongue about the need to utilize an opportunity when it presents itself. You say to him, who is listening with great interest.

"You should always look out for opportunities for it does not present itself explicitly except very few times. When you see it, you should grab it and use it for your to benefit from it.

I will tell you about some things that happened in my life so you can relate to it. I had this dream of settling in America. I had good job, good pay, nice family and generally a pleasant life.

After a few years, I liked the way of life and wanted it to continue forever. But I could not continue this unless I get this thing called greencard, which let me stay for as long as I wanted and work anywhere I wanted. In those days due to many reasons and problems it was very difficult to get one. But I was patient and kept waiting.

There were a group of people who wanted to get together and solve the problems so that the wait time is eliminated. They knew how to get a solution to my problems of getting the greencard sooner. But they needed help from everyone like me so that we could get solve our problems.

At one point, they wanted people like me to go to the capital and talk to different people who had the power to solve our problems. This would help them understand the issues faced by people like me and help address them.

But at that time, I had other things to do and knew that there are others who would chip in and work together and solve this problem.

But then I realized, this green card was very dear to me and I had waited patiently to get it. If I do not work towards something that I wanted, who would?

So I participated completely and did as much as I could to help myself. Our group suceeded and I got my green card. I could continue living the life and dream I wanted.

When I think back about what went right, I realize now that the reason is I saw the opportunity that presented itself to me - To join others and work together to resolve my problems and grabbed the opportunity and utilized it to my benefit.

Thinking back, it was actually a no brainer. Once I realized that if I did not do something, nothing was going to change, I started participating. I guess others also thought of it the same way.

So there was a big crowd in the capital and we explained our problems. It was a sizable number of people explaining the problems. Others who could not make it to the capital contributed in other ways for the event.

So our problems were recognized and addressed. I got my greencard and later citizenship of this great country. Remember, it was not an easy journey, but once I decided to participate and resolve the problems, it became easy.

It was a pain to wait for my green card. But once I started participating and working towards the solution and I guess others must have also thought similarly, I was able to get what I wanted.

So realize this. Always look for opportunity. When it presents itself, grab it and use it and do what is necessary to reap the benefits. You will not regret it."

Guys,

Lets focus energies on "Reuniting Families Act". Use this word. Its important. Visa recapture is part of it, but emphasize "FAMILY".

We need this bill and 350,000 VISAS that come with it. We have to make sure that those VISAs don't need to used 'per country' basis. Those VISAs must be distributed to whoever is in line, no matter which country they belong to.

IV core, please focus on this. We need this bill and all those recaptured VISAs can be used for anyone in the line, pre-adjudication complete and held-up because there is no VISA, irrespective of the changeability.

Assuming 12inch distance:

38mm (9.7) at f8, near 9.99, far 15
28mm (7.3) at f8, near 8.84, far 18.7

That does sound more reasonable given it's a digicam.

I showed my 485 Receipt notice as evidence and renewed my licence. You don't have to always produce EAD (then every 2 year you have to renew the licence).

If your 485 is pending for long, You can contact USCIS over phone and create service request. USCIS will send you a letter saying that your case is pending because of so and so reason. You can take that along with you, if the BMV is asking why your 485 is pending for long.
